The Daily Telegraph | Four times as many cheap energy deals as before price cap

Our research on wholesale prices and fixed-tariff deals was sourced in The Daily Telegraph. Wholesale prices had fallen by £45 a year between January and July.

This drop in wholesale prices is undoubtedly a factor in the reason why fixed deals are cheaper. Fixed-tariff deals are concerned with pricing today, whereas standard variable tariffs appear to be more concerned with pricing near the level of the cap.

Talking about the price cap Kate Hill said that the cap is on a lag to wholesale prices, operating six months behind, meaning these decreases will not be seen in bills for some months.
