Smart Energy International | Will Irish households benefit from falling wholesale prices?

Our research on Irish wholesale prices falling and the benefit to consumers was featured in Smart Energy International. Joe Camish an Analyst at Cornwall Insight explained that fall in wholesale prices was largely influenced by the drop in demand stemming from the COVID-19 lockdown measures.

Commenting further Joe said that wholesale prices were muted by the low wind generation throughout the month. “Wind generation accounted for 25.1% of the generation mix in April the lowest levels so far this year”, said Joe

It will be interesting to see the impact of these changes in the prices paid by consumers. The reductions in the regulated electricity tariff in Northern Ireland specifically cited those wholesale price movements.
